Last week I went for my yearly mammogram. I go to a women’s
imaging center where all they do is digital mammograms. Since I am a breast
cancer survivor I usually hang around the 20 minutes for the radiologist to
read my mammogram. When I went into the waiting room there was a woman not only
crying but also wailing. I decided to leave and wait for the follow-up letter
to come and the notice sent to my oncologist.
I saw the oncologist before I got the letter with the heads
up that all was fine. I was feeling relieved until I got home and opened the
letter from the imaging center. The letter stated my breast tissue is almost
entirely fat.
I chose during breast cancer to save my breasts. I had 2
lumpectomies, which is considered breast conservation to keep them. So what if
they are almost all fat now. I am happy that they are still original. Did the
imaging center just call me ‘fatty’?
Breasts are not comprised of muscle so are fatty breasts
bad? I can’t work out my breasts to turn the fat to muscle because there are no
muscles in breasts! So here is my question:
Have you been told that
you are a fat breasted woman?

I've been called a lot of things in my time....but not that. As long as you are cancer free who cares? The bottom line is you are doing well and that is ALL that matters. Good for you, Haralee. I am so happy to hear the good news.
Thanks Cathy, that's what I think as well!
Not fun but so happy you got a good report Haralee!
The main thing is that you have beat the big bad C with your breasts still intact. Hurrah! What the heck is a fatty breast anyway? I'll never know I always been flatty Patty. ha ha
Thanks Nancy. I am happy the end result was positive even though there seems to be a dig.
The things you learn, right Pa? I never knew either. At least you aren't called fatty flat Patty!
I've never heard anything like that Haralee... I guess here In Arkansas we don't have them fancy machines.. and I think I am glad!
The things you learn! Thanks Margaret!
I've been called a fat bottom girl but never a fat-breasted woman.
I'm glad your news was good. (And am a little haunted by the wailing woman you encountered. So sad.)
I still get that little fear when I go...had a benign lumpectomy in 91.
Lisa, I know something new! Fridays I am told is the busiest day at the imaging center. I won't schedule a mammogram again on a Friday just so I have less chance meeting a full waiting room.
I think Carol there is always some fear and anxiety after a suspicious reading.
Haralee, first, so glad you survived breast cancer and that you had a clear mammo. I get my mammo later this week and am always nervous when I put my breasts in the mammo machine. I've never heard of fatty breasts.
Thanks Judy. Never heard of it before either! Live and learn.
Mine were dense, which I think is the opposite of fatty. Density makes mammograms hard to read; my mammogram didn't detect cancer. I'm glad we both survived it, I had a double mastectomy and reconstruction, not for the faint of heart that's for sure!
Valerie you certainly are a survivor! Thanks for commenting.
Mine have been called dense, but I've never heard of fatty before. I'm just glad you're cancer free!
Thanks Lana. Fatty is the opposite of dense which come to think of it they could be called not dense and that would sound so much nicer and better!
Not yet! But it could be coming. Darn!
I really don't think Barbara it is as awful as it sounds. Dense breast are harder to read in a mammogram!
