My New Wallet Buying Journey

Who knew there was a trend change in women’s wallets? I didn’t that’s a fact.
I needed a new wallet. Mine would no longer hold change. The lining was looking very ratty. It was about 15 years old. It was time.

To my surprise, finding a wallet with my specifications; a coin area and not too big, is hard to find. I also didn’t want to have to use a cosigner to buy it. So began my search that turned into a lesson in fashion trend. Here are the reasons:

  1. ·     Wallet Designers think women don’t need coin areas because most don’t carry cash.
  2. ·      Zippers are more fashionable than clasps.
  3. ·      The zipper area can be used for coins and also for receipts.
  4. ·      In wallet fashion, women either carry few credit cards or many.
  5. ·      Popular wallet fashion is a large size like a small purse.

I am off trend because:
  1. ·      I carry cash.
  2. ·      I like coins.
  3. ·      My wallet stays in my purse, I always carry some kind of purse.
  4. ·      I don’t like big zipper fobs.
  5. ·      I carry several credit cards.
  6. ·      I carry a fairly big purse but I don’t like a big wallet.

Now that I realize the trend, I am aware of friends who don’t carry cash. I know others who carry few credit cards. One friend explained to me she carries a $20.00 bill, her driver’s license and 1 credit card. Another friend carries her credit cards in a separate case. Little did I realize they are trendy and I am not!

Do you carry cash? Have you bought a new wallet recently?

I do carry cash. I found using a zippered cosmetic bag for my money cards and coins is easiest. Of course I'm always trying to hand over my Macy's card instead of my Visa and digging through. But it's easier as receipts can also go in there.

oh i am totally off trend. my wallet might be 20 years old. but i still don't have enough room and wind up with a change purse and a ziploc bag full of lesser credit cards and nonsense. love the red!

I carry cash and I always have coins. I think my requirements are very similar to yours, and come to think of it, I could use a new wallet!

I have noticed tiny wallets and then another small case for credit cards that some women use. Yes the receipts that are all long they don't fit in small spots!

The doctor gives me a receipt that is tiny and I am used to the yard stick receipts so it looks very odd to me now.

I am trying to carry a few credit cards.Of course I forget the one I need like Macy's to get the discount and there is no customer service department any longer at stores!

I keep a twenty above my visor and a tiny tupperware container of only quarters in my console. Other than parking meters I never need change and it's just more weight to wear out the wallet.

Good luck shopping Helene!

I carry cash, I carry coins, I carry credit card and if my wallet ever grows old enough to need to be retired I'm taking you shopping with me.

I find it so hard to buy a new wallet and have finally started paring down my credit cards and coins. I found one I love in Anthropologie (where else?!) but I stuff it so thick, it doesn't even snap, which kind of defeats the purpose!

I Know Lois, who would have thought it was so hard to find a wallet to fit your lifestyle!

I carry cash -- mostly for shopping at Farmers Markets. I use one that could double as small clutch purse, and occasionally does. I like having all my essentials there. Everything else in my purse is optional.

Very organized Joy, I like it! I couldn't do it because I need my Advil, lipstick, hanky, sunglasses, pens, paper, etc!

That's a lovely wallet!

I'm not trendy in many ways, but I think I may be in wallet design.
