1. Don’t try to remember the names of everyone,
they can’t remember yours either so let them know with:
Hello I am Jane, John’s Wife, Sue’s Sister, David’s Mother,
Bertie’s Daughter, etc.
2 2. Don’t try to hang-out or hide-out with your
adult children
You may be getting
smarter every year in your children’s eyes but you are still setting an example
for them on social graces so mingle you must!
3 3. Don’t overdrink
You don’t want to become Drunk Auntie or Dancing on the table
Auntie forever from just one too many cocktails one time!
4 4. Don’t over-help
You don’t want to be
known as the go to person who will clean up or organize the whole event year
after year after year after year!
5 5. Do take Pictures
Even if you think you look terrible, or your family members
groan at your picture snapping, in 5 years time, everyone will be glad you
caught the event images.
6 6. Take a time out
If you are finding yourself getting into an argument, or
feeling stressed, take a time out. Offer
to “take out the trash” and keep on walking. Does the dog need a walk? Make a
beer run?
Summer family events can be tiresome but for the most part
they are happy events. As we age, family get togethers are more for sad events
so relish the good times!

I'm heading off to visit family in a week, so this is a timely post for me. On my husband's mom's side there are tons of cousins, second cousins etc. It can be overwhelming until you just go with it.
P.S. I'll take the beer run please.
Good Luck and another good excuse is using your kid, like time to take a potty break or go down for a nap. Actually doing it with your child is of course optional!
