Summer Projects and Tooth Fairy Pillows

Spring started with a friend mentioning to me about her chairs she reupholstered.  I was impressed with her work and asked her if she would help me do my dining room chairs. It was fun and I am really pleased how they turned out!

Then I was cruising through Goodwill and spotted a bolt of outdoor fabric. I ‘d been wanting to get new cushions for the outside chairs so why not. My sewing machine buzzed and my skills came back, sort of. Notice the first pillow in the high back chair.

Because it does look a bit like the circus is in town with all the stripes, I made another tablecloth to mix and match.

I was feeling confident on my sewing skills so when another fabric piece appeared at Goodwill I thought it perfect for cushions for the cat baskets.

Now that summer is here, I’ve put the sewing machine away for a bit. My summer project is to organize my loose recipes. I did this about 10 years ago with category tabs. I bought this notebook and plastic page protectors and if I can stop printing off recipes I find online or from www.BakingInATornado.comwww.BakingInATornado.com, I will finish by summer’s end.

Another project waiting for cold weather and the return of the sewing machine is Tooth Fairy Pillows. I picked up some felt and fabric at a yard sale that will be darling.
The woman I bought the fabrics from asked if I was putting a handle on the pillows that go on the doorknob of the child’s room to direct the Tooth Fairy. Did the Tooth Fairy get stupid? Do you know the proper protocol for Tooth Fairy pillows?
Any one have a tooth fairy design they like? I am open for ideas!

What are your summer projects?

I have a recipe file that's so overloaded the cardboard box is ripping. I too bought a notebook and sleeves and for a while that was the answer. Now I just keep sticking recipes in one or two overstuffed sleeves per category. I have no idea what I'm going to do next but I swear I'm starting to feel like a hoarder.
PS: Thank you so much for the compliment. I'm honored to have had a mention in your post.

I enjoy your recipes but there is that problem, so many recipes where to put them!

Sewing is not my forte, Haralee, so I am very impressed with your skill. Everything looks so beautiful!

Thanks Cathy. Onwards to recipe organization that I somehow think I can work on outside!

I tried to sew simple ties on my kitchen chairs and ended up with about 6 bandaids on my fingers! Love the outside cushions! I agree with the recipes overload Karen is making us all hoarders with her terrific recipes! Can't wait to see the toothfairy pillows!

Thanks Rena. I have a couple of years to perfect the Tooth Fairy Pillows but I am up to 8 kids already so once I perfect it I will go into production.

I am very impressed with your sewing skills. Thatbis a skill I cannot seem to master.
My grandkids put their teeth in an envelope and put it under their pillows. ..duh. The pillows sound adorable.

You are amazingly crafty and talented. I long to have that kind of skill, but alas, I'm too impatient.

Kim it is like riding a bike, Good luck!

Doreen, thanks. Tooth Fairy pillows are cute and when I spotted some in a boutique and the price, I thought I can do that. We'll see!

Thanks Carol. I find sewing relaxing.

I love how one project lead to another to another to another! What a gift your friend gave you! I learned to knit when I was young and love is as therapy (no one would ever wear or use anything I made except out of pity) but resisted learning to even thread a needle. Good for you!

Haralee said...

You are right Ruth, sometimes doing one thing leads to another and then even more if it is fun.

I've been on a furniture refinishing kick. Now I think I'll get the sewing machine out for some accessorizing!

And as for the tooth fairy, if she needs directions I'm thinking she needs to retire.

Haralee said...

Furniture refinishing is hard work. Good for you! You may be right about the Tooth Fairy!

Wow, that is so impressive! Your chairs all look great, and I can't wait to see the tooth fairy pillows!

Haralee said...

Thanks Lois. I have a few years to get the hang of the Tooth Fairy Pillows, but I am starting soon!

Wow - great sewing work! I'm envious of anyone with sewing skills, as I have none. Looks beautiful!

Thanks so much Lana. It is a skill that sometimes comes in handy!

You could go into business doing this! From someone who can sew buttons-only, I am very impressed!

Haralee said...

Thanks Bonnie. I just sew for a hobby sporadically every few years!
