Funeral Pre-Planning Career

What is a career where ageism does not exist? The funeral business!

Funeral pre-planning is something I never thought of until my sister and I chose to go through the process for our Mother.  Since Mom is still alive we were not grieving and could make sensible choices. Mom has expressed her wishes and we wrapped the whole deal up in less than 45 minutes.

If you have never been involved with a funeral, let me tell you it is expensive. There are many fees that are state regulated and you just have to pay. Cremation is an option for many and while less expensive it is not dirt-cheap either.  There are many options but if you are just shopping and not besot with grief, decisions and choices are easily made without buyer remorse.

I was so impressed with the whole process of funeral pre-planning I mentioned it to a friend who put me in touch with a friend who happens to be a mortician. Come to find out the pre-planning industry is booming among baby boomers. Am I late to the game?

The pre-planning and funeral business is so booming most companies are looking for help, people to sell funerals. Does not matter your age and actually a mature older person is very welcomed. You’re the same group of your demographics or are intimately familiar with an older parent’s funeral plans.

Why the employment void? It is not such an easy sell because many people don’t want to talk about funerals especially their own. The question though is why do you want to burden your kids/spouse with this expense? Sure the money for preplanning is not as sexy as a trip to Italy but I think the peace of mind is worth it!

So if you are looking for a job I suggest contacting some funeral homes. A big company is Dignity Memorial. In my area they are so desperate for sales people they have orientation hiring events! http://www.dignitymemorial.com/en-us/index.page

Have you discussed with your family your funeral plans. Do you have a pre-planned funeral set in place?

It's ironic that you bring this subject up. My daughter and I have started planning my funeral. We have a dedicated notebook for it and when it's time for Ryan to actually do my funeral she will take it to my friend Patty who works at a funeral home.

Your friend could advise you, but you may want to pay for it now too!

We live right near a Memorial Park and being in South Fl - Boca in particular ... we get solicitations for side by side plots all of the time. Since my husband left recently - I am now thinking I should have bought two so he could be stuck right next to me forever ;)

I think the issue is no one really wants to think about it for themselves.
