Of course everyone would love to see a cure for cancer, the
common cold and a painless way to live until you die. What I am talking about
are the more shallow modern inventions that when I sat at the 1964 World’s Fair
I believed anything was possible in the future.
1 Self Regulated Thermostat
Why can’t I have an energy field around me that detects when
I am having a hot flash and cools me down and then resumes a comfortable
temperature?
2.
Entry Way Cleaners
Why isn’t there a throw rug that immediately cleans and
dries anyone’s shoes and pant legs from any one who enters your house? This
would also include paws and tails and whiskers on dogs and cats.
3. Dish Washers, Clothes Dryers,
Clothes Washers that Complete the Entire Tasks
Why do I still have to put the dishes back into the
cupboard, the clothes into the drawers or into the closet?
4.
A Self-Cleaning House
Why is there not a spray that I can use that sucks all the
dust from every object in my home? Where is the devise that vacuums every
carpet and washes every floor without my lifting a hand? Toilets, sinks, tubs,
showers that all clean themselves without harmful chemicals?
5. A Robot Butler
Not necessarily an Artificial Intelligent being but just
some robot who can do some chores around the house and answer the phone while
making me coffee and cooking dinner. Is that too much to ask?
My husband hates the idea of a robot butler. He thinks it is
just one more thing for him to program. He gets the heebie geebies about AI
ever since ‘Hal’ in 2001 Space Odyssey.
What futuristic things are you still waiting for?

I want an app that knows what I buy at the grocery store each week, makes suggestions for dinner, and creates new lists that are transmitted to a local supermarket which debits my account and delivers them to my house along with recipes from WilliamsSonoma.com Now that I have Songza.com, the music concierge, that's all I need. For now.
I agree -- these should all be invented already. And what about someone to go through menopause for me??!
Something to deliver a perfectly brewed soy latte to my bedside.
Susan, I think that is very realistic and I want it too!
Lois, How could I forget a surrogate menopausal? Oh right because I am going through menopause! Thanks.
Carpool Goddess, Very reasonable. Thanks.
I would settle for the Robot Butler..
I was at that World's Fair and so amazed at the phones where you could see who you were talking to.
SB, Rosie the Robot from the Jetsens was great! I agree,She would be great to have, thanks.
Janie, I forgot about the visual phones! I guess we have SKYPE now, so very close, maybe a self cleaning home is not too far off?
My husband would LOVE the robot butler...he was the one who bought the robot floor cleaner...which BTW was a total waste of money...all of these are such lovely ideas...these days I am into ignoring housework and hoping it will go away!
Pam, that is an excellent idea!
Fun to think about. Who knows what new inventions we will see in our lifetime.
Thanks Jennifer. It is fun to dream and wonder and hope any day now!
I would like a personal chef. Not sure if that's terribly futuristic, but that's what I want. Very much.
Wouldn't it be nice if your chef comes with like Susan says, groceries, suggestions and of course for you Sharon prepared? I like it!
I've still got my fingers crossed for a ride-able vacuum cleaner myself.
Grace, That's a great idea!
I'm waiting for world peace. Just sayin'.
Carol, that too is right up there!
I love these ideas. So creative! I'd sell your self-regulated thermostats in my future e-store. lol
Oh I want number 3! I'd be willing to pay big bucks :)
Ellen, thanks. I think we would have a winner there!
Thanks Amy for your comments. #3 is a good starting point. I think I saw this task completed on 'Bewitched'.
I love you image of Rosie, the Jetson's maid. She brought back all the ways we thought of the future back when we were kids. Have to agree with Sharon that having a personal chef would be my top choice although the old fashioned kind is preferred.
Grown and Flown, I always wanted a "Max" form the TV show 'Heart to Heart'.
All of these sound wonderful! Especially the one that keeps my temperature regulated.
I want a device that can quickly, and inexpensively, scan me and tell me everything that wrong with me. The ability to fix those things would be wonderful, too, but for now I'd settle for quick and accurate diagnostics!
I like that idea, sort of like from Star Trek, they could do a quick scan. Of course all fully covered by insurance!
self cleaning house - let's try to get that done!!
Rachel I am with you on inventing!
